haul in wheelmill today

SMP proposes a little 3-Foot Natural Rock Ramp Fishway on the Crooked River.

If our new application for this fishway is approved, we would be able to achieve some water power to turn the wooden waterwheel to power the up-and-down saw. In addition, fishermen will enjoy improved salmon fishing on the Crooked River.

We need your support during this application process. Please stay tuned for ways you can voice your support to bring this historic mill to life.

Over the last 32 years of work to restore Scribner’s Mill, Scribner’s Mill Preservation, Inc. has slowly realized that our mill is the only mid 19th century sash sawmill remaining in North America that,

1. Remains on its original site.
2. Retains much of its original buildings.
3. Has its original 1847 mill equipment.
4. Has the potential to be operated by its original source of power directed to the equipment by the original means.

It is only through intimate knowledge of Scribner's Mill and research beyond the site, that it's true significance to society has been identified.
